Latest Review of The Flamingos’ Diamond Anniversary CD in Concert Calendar Magazine

“This is an astounding production from a legendary group, now celebrating their 60th year in the entertainment industry. The Flamingos have withstood the test of time because of their firm adherence to this principle: to produce quality music, which entertains and enlightens their fans. Terry Jonson has always pushed the envelope, offering the finest turntable favorites and orchestration to countless audiences worldwide. Johnson has now added to his resume by creating an exceptionally wonderful CD that captures the sound and essence of this one-of-a-kind group. Each of the 14 songs is given the deluxe treatment. The instrumentation is full and lush, yet it does no over power the vocals. The voices combine in a tight blend, yet each singer stands out with his own distinctive sound. The marriage of instruments and vocals is the result of a flawless mix, giving you a crisp, clean sound on each selection. The songs herein are all fine examples from the great American songbook and, when coupled with The Flamingos’ unique styling’s, become monumental in stature. “Begin The Beguine,” the Cole Porter gem, is absolutely magical. It is given new life through Terry’s fine arrangement. Two Flamingos’ standbys, “I Only Have Eyes For You” and “I’ll Be Home” are both dazzling. Listen to the spoken introduction on the latter song and then you realize why this evergreen was originally written. My favorite “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” from Freddy Mercury. It became more joyous when expertly handled by this group. Do yourself a favor and purchase “Diamond Anniversary Tour 2013.” It will stand up to everything you expect from the Flamingos.
